Book Arts & Genealogy

Having received envelopes filled with photos of unidentifiable ancestors, ephemera, handwritten branches of the family tree I was immediately inspired. The beauty in those vintage pieces of paper influenced some of my first handmade books.

I replicated (somewhat) a Gem Album of photos. No names were available but still fun to make. It also makes it easy to share without bringing out the old and fragile documents.

Below I reproduced a piece of small business ephemera and inserted it, along with a larger print index, into mulberry covered boards. I also was lucky enough to find an image of the town during the same year to line the inside covers.

Finally a reprinted a photo of a family document with a brief description inside.
